    金針 although was translated as “acupuncture needle”, it was referring to the long thin mushrooms, Enokitake, or 金針菇 (golden needle mushroom) in Chinese.

    additionally,

    It should be read as 肥牛仔, 牛仔 in this case means “baby cow” or “veal”, & 肥 does not mean “fat”, rather “succulent”.

    So, the dish’s true name should be read as

    金針肥牛仔鍋

    or “hot pot of veal with enokitake mushroom”.

    Um. This is not a menu photo but rather the cover of album by an 80s art rock band called “young acupuncture needle of boiler” (all lowercase, of course).

    The name of the record was “fertilizes a cattle.” I have this record. They opened for They Might Be Giants at Numbers in Houston in ‘86.
