The Japanese text says “Please love the monkeys while watching, they are friends of mankind”.

The word “watch” here is a special word. It’s read as “Kanshoo” which stand for “watch a theatrical play”, “watch a movie”, “watch a concert” etc. and also used as “read” (as in read a book), “listen” (as in listen to music) etc. Basically it’s not just “watch” it’s more like “to enjoy a form of entertainment and art by watching, reading, listening” I put there as so, for the sake of the context.
